Does this sound like your daily routine? You wake up each morning hoping for just five more minutes sleep. You shower, slurp down a coffee and then hop in your car (or on public transport) and set off to work. Then about eight hours later you get to leave and think to yourself that there has to be something better!
Have you though about setting up a home based business to ensure that you can get the best of both worlds; family life and work life? If so, it is a unquestionably a viable idea and is definitely worth while looking into.
Or maybe you are currently working at home and you are struggling with the day to day chores in your home. Either way, it is important to make time for both your work and your family. You need to be able to keep them separate or you will get seriously stressed out. That is why it is vital that you start and finish work the same time.
This is important for two main reasons. The first reason is so your customers will know when they can call you about business and secondly, your partner and or kids need to know when they can start hassling you about dinner!
I am putting off my Household Chores, and now I have no Time! Help!
Cooking, gardening, laundry and maintaining your home can be a full time job, especially when you add children into the equation. You may find that 24 hours in a day is not enough to get everything done. It is common for a new home based business operator to take a little bit of time organising a routine that works effectively.
Be sure that you don’t forget that the water bill is due, that pile of laundry is building up, oh and remember to pick your son up from soccer training, then cook dinner and meet your quota at work!
Sometimes this can all be a little overwhelming! There is a simple solution to this issue that so many new businesses encounter in the early stages.
The Solution.
Create two lists of things that you need done for the day (or the week) and allow enough time to complete each task. One list for work chores and one list for household chores. This will help you organise and prioritise your day to day chores and your work. If you finish your household chores early, then you have a bit more time to relax later in the day. By simply creating these types of lists will certainly help you to improve your time management skills and make you less likely to procrastinate.
Have you have heard of Monday-it is? It might be an idea to allocate less household chores on a Monday, as Monday is the usually the day when we all seem to procrastinate more!
My Home Based Business is making Money, but I am still Struggling. What else can I do?
Are you finding that your home based business is making a bit of money, but the household chores are stacking up? If so, it may be worth looking into hiring the services of a housekeeper to come into your home once a week to help you keep on top of things?
Didn’t that young guy down across the road offer to mow your front and back yards for only $10? Now that might be a good investment! Just think of how much time you will save! You need to weigh up whether you would make more than $10 in the time it takes to mow your lawns to see if it a financially viable decision.
There is always another option. Have you thought about increasing your productivity by getting rid of the kids for a few hours? It always pays to see if you can leave the kids with the in-laws or put them into childcare when you need a bit of peace and quiet to meet your deadlines.
Working at Home, is it really worth it?
Home business opportunities can sometimes be more trouble than they are worth. Sometimes we take the IT support at the office for granted. If things go wrong at home, who are you going to call? Instead of quitting your current job and researching home business opportunities and starting up your own business, it may be worth negotiating a work from home agreement with your manager.
While you cannot eliminate all distractions when working at home, you can definitely minimize them! Yes you will still face those frustrating household chores and disruptions from your kids. But managing these can be so much easier, once you have designed a routine that incorporates your household chores and ensuring that there is enough time divided between work and your family.
